SLOW | UNDER – A slow motion experiment

Last summer I experimented with the high frame rate of the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition by filming my nephew playing in the pool. I then converted the underwater footage into slow motion video and added some music and a graphic title logo. The double title “SLOW | UNDER” (also meaning “SLO | WUNDER”) is represented by the typography divided on three lines with a turquoise triangle pointing down. Fairly simple and evocative.

Motion design corporate presentation

In my quest to master motion design, I started a personal project inspired by the title sequence of the miniseries The Pacific and The Borgias. Since I already worked for them in the past, I decided to use the Caisse Populaire Desjardins Rideau d’Ottawa 100th anniversary as the subject of this project. The one minute sequence is a corporate presentation of the origin and milestones on this financial institution’s history. The video is available in 720p on Youtube.

School project S3 – Flash animation : La liberté

For this flash project we had carte blanche. The only restriction was a minimum length of 30 seconds. It took me a while to find an idea for this animation, but after seeing “Storming Juno” a “Band of Brothers” type TV movie focusing on the D-Day Canadian landing on Juno beach, I was inspired to write this poem (translated from French).

Freedom

It’s walking on the beach and forgeting your worries
It’s feeling the wind’s caress on your skin, carrying the smell of the sea
It’s hearing the sound of seagulls and waves crashing on the shore
It’s watching and listening to children laughing and playing.
Youth, innocence … ignorance
Free as birds they run without knowing the story … the story of this place.
A story of courage and sacrifice
The history of liberty
I hear the ghosts of the past
. . .
Children will learn this story
But us, do we take our freedom for granted?
Freedom has a price.
Thank you to all the soldiers who have walked these places
We will remember them.

I then decided to make that personal project my next flash animation. After the planning process, I recorded myself reading the poem and added music and sound effects, then, I took the elaborate task to animate the poem in flash. The picture quality I had of Juno beach was average at best, so I decided to give a painting effect to the whole production. Unfortunately, it didn’t came out as good as I wanted (sound and visual) but it did translate the poem adequately. Click on the image below to see the 2 min flash animation (in French).

SWITS sweeps the FAA awards

In January, the Star Wars Fanworks community voted for their favorite fan audio productions of 2009 in a variety of categories. Star Wars : In the Shadows (SWITS) was up for all the audio drama categories… and won them all. You can download and listen to the Fan Audio Award (FAA) show (spinoff#16) hosted this year by husband and wife, Andrew and Sarah Gilbertson along with the multitalented audio producer Joe Harrison.

I am blessed to have been surrounded by such talented people and it made my project better than I expected. Thanks to all the people involved and congrats to the runners-up. Here are the categories SWITS was nominated for.

After meeting Xizor aboard his skyhook the Falleen Fist, our heroes made a deal with the prince; The Jedi in exchange for their freedom. Unfortunately for Xizor, he underestimated the young crew and fell for their well-crafted ploy. Aboard the Providence, Emma and her friends have reached the Tapani Sector, where they finally pinpoint the location of the secret Imperial base and request the help of the Rebel Alliance. Yet they are unaware that Guri has followed them and that Darth Vader is not far behind.

I would like to thank all the volunteer cast members for their talent and time, all the partners for their help in promoting the drama and anyone who help promote SWITS by word to mouth and via social networks. This audio drama was my first adventure in storytelling and without your support it would not have been possible. I hope you enjoyed the story and the production. The young Jayna was kidnapped by Black Sun in a desperate attempt by Xizor to get information out of Emma. Little did he know that during their trip to Imperial City, they would discover that Emma is Force sensitive and that a biological weapon was at the heart of the secret imperial project her dad was working on. But our heroes are unaware that Darth Vader in on their tail, determined to kill the newly discovered Jedi.
